During this engagement, this misconfiguration was exploited to obtain a root shell within seconds of gaining the initial foothold, resulting in complete host compromise.

An attacker can hijack authenticated user sessions by stealing session cookies, capture credentials entered on the affected page, perform actions on behalf of victims using their active session, and redirect users to phishing pages. Where the XSS affects administrator users, complete application account takeover is achievable.
